Rasmussen College to Relocate to Madison East Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MANKATO — After 10 years at its location on St. Andrews Drive, Rasmussen College’s Mankato campus will relocate in 2018.

The college’s 10-year lease at its current location will end in December. The new space at Madison East Center will be completed around then in anticipation of opening for classes starting in January 2018.

The new location will better reflect student needs, said Kathy Sanger, campus director.

“Ten years ago this building really suited our needs, but that was 10 years ago,” she said. “Now fast forward, most of our lectures are online so we don’t need more lecture rooms. We need more labs.”

Construction will begin this spring to add updated health science and nursing labs along with some classroom space. The majority of the college’s 600-student body are health science or nursing majors.

Rasmussen College is no stranger to moves. This will be the fourth time the campus changed locations in Mankato. Sanger said people are often surprised to hear the college didn’t own the St. Andrews Drive location, but Rasmussen always has leased its space.

When the college first opened in Mankato in 1984, it leased a location on Good Counsel Drive. It moved to Madison Avenue in 1994, near where McDonalds now sits. Construction of Victory Drive in 2007 then forced the college to move into the new building on St. Andrews Drive.

Sanger said moving back to Madison Avenue will be a positive for students and staff alike.

“The location is awesome,” she said. “We’ll be centrally located.”

She said the school is hoping for another 10-year lease similar to what they’ve historically had. The new location will be leased from Coldwell Banker Commercial Fisher Group. Sanger said the space they’re looking to move into is on the front of the building near Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts.

A new tenant for the St. Andrews Drive building hasn’t been finalized, although Rasmussen staff have already seen tours go through. Venstar, the Bloomington-based real estate firm that leased the location to Rasmussen, lists the location for lease on its website.
